6 VISUAL ARTWORKS
6 MUSICAL RESPONSES
Can't wait? Listen to the Songs now...
Perpetual Echoes is a musical response to six selected art works from the permanent collection of the Geelong Gallery. An exploration of the nature of inspiration, it offers an innovative approach to viewing art; the musical interpretations highlighting the artistic and historic meaning these iconic paintings have for the community of Geelong.
The songs of Perpetual Echoes were created as a musical collaboration between commissioned Geelong and regional artists Lisa Singline, Belinda McArdle, Sue Hindle and Stephen Oakes. The project was managed and directed by Lisa, and the artists worked both individually and together to experience, research and bring forth ideas in response to the visual works. Their reflections and the information gathered informed and influenced the collaborative song writing process.

The Perpetual Echoes Project was made possible by funding provided through the City of Greater Geelong's Biennial Community Arts Grant, and through the support of the Geelong Gallery in providing access to art works from the Permanent Collection and for obtaining permissions for reproduction of the artworks to support the Project.
Cultural identity is linked to the land, where we live geographically and its history, namely our town, Geelong. Cultural institutions, such as Geelong Gallery, help to inform and develop cultural identity of a place and they hold our shared stories, symbols, history and knowledge. Art has its own language beyond words which is made even more powerful when melded with music and song. Music communicates ideas and emotions, giving a distinctive kind of literacy. The importance of music within education is being recognised and increasingly being incorporated back into the curriculum. This project provides a new forum for discussion of community issues and knowledge, and additional enquiry and appreciation of art works.
We welcome you here to experience the artworks and the songs of Perpetual Echoes, to feel the echoes of inspiration that ripple outwards and to share your feedback with us on our Facebook page.
